Speeding soccer player expected in court today

JOHANNESBURG - A prominent soccer player is expected to appear in court today on charges of reckless and negligent driving.
The player, reported to be Orlando Pirates goalkeeper Brighton Mhlongo,was arrested on Friday night for driving at 173 kilometres per hour.
His vehicle was also not fitted with registration plates.
Transport Department spokesperson Ishmael Mnisi says sports stars and celebrities are not above the law and should take note that they are role models.
"As prominent people in South Africa, they must be ambassadors of road safety."
Mnisi says Minister Dipuo Peters has promised to 'name and shame' those arrested once they have appeared in court - including the player who is likely to make an appearance today.
He says prominent South Africans, including celebrities and soccer stars, should lead by example and become ambassadors of road safety.
