Man dies in Johannesburg fire
One person has been killed and two others injured in two separate fires in Johannesburg.
JOHANNESBURG - One person has been killed and two others injured in two separate fires reported in Johannesburg this morning.
Johannesburg Emergency Services say a man in the Matholeville informal settlement near Roodepoort died from smoke inhalation after his shack caught alight.
In the Johannesburg CBD, two people were injured when a fire started in the abandoned building they were living in.
Officials say a total of 40 people were evacuated from the building.
EMS spokesperson Robert Mulaudzi says investigations are underway into the cause of the CBD blaze.
"Two people were treated on scene, they refused to be transported to hospital. The cause of the fire at this stage is still unknown. Our fire investigation team will be investigating the cause of the fire."
