JOHANNESBURG - Eskom says it will continue its maintenance festival this long weekend to ensure there is no load shedding in winter.

The power utility says because many people leave during this time it gives them a chance to do as much maintenance as possible.

Eskom spokesperson Khulu Phasiwe says power outages in Germiston and surrounding areas are not related to load shedding and residence should contact related municipalities.

Phasiwe says they have not had load shedding over the past seven months.

"We aspire to not have load shedding and we will do everything possible to avoid it. If it happens it will be something out of the ordinary."
