JOHANNESBURG - Eskom says maintenance on the power grid will continue over the long weekend, but overall unplanned outages have decreased drastically for the first time in years.
The utility has managed to avoid load shedding for several months now, focusing on maintenance and its build programme.
Eskom's Khulu Phasiwe says they've managed to avoid a large percentage of unplanned power cuts.
"Last week alone, we did a lot of maintenance and as a result, for the first time in many years, we were able to reduce unplanned outages. We are now sitting at about 7,6 percent plant availability, meaning the power station is available to meet the demand as we are sitting at 80 percent."
