City Power spokesperson Yumna Sheikh said, "They're actually on their way out to Kelvin substation to go and find out what is exactly going on. We were expecting to have power restored by nine o'clock this morning and it seems there's still areas that are off."
Earlier today, City Power said 25 percent of the City of Joburg has been without electricity since midnight. The utility said it is not certain about the reason for outages in other parts of the city.
The substation was switched off at midnight and rebooted at six o clock this morning.
City Power's Louis Pieterse said, "Probably supply is 25 percent of entire Joburg, so you can imagine if that substation is off due to planned maintenance and that means 25 percent of suburbs in Joburg will be off."
