Zuma opts to stay mum on Mentor, Gupta reports
Vytjie Mentor made an allegation saying a representative of the controversial family offered her the job.
JOHANNESBURG - President Jacob Zuma says he's noted claims made by former African National Congress (ANC) Member of Parliament (MP) Vytjie Mentor about the Gupta family, and has declined to comment on the matter.
Mentor made an allegation on Facebook, saying a representative of the controversial family offered her the job of public enterprises minister after Barbara Hogan was redeployed in 2010.
In that message, the former MP also claims the offer came with certain conditions and was made at the Gupta's home in Saxonwold, where Zuma was also in a room next door.
In a two-line statement this evening, Zuma says he has no recollection of Mentor as an MP and is therefore in no position to comment.
At the same time the Gupta family has denied having ever met with Mentor.
