Fresh calls for Gupta family to be summoned to Parliament
Vytie Mentor has claimed on Facebook that the Guptas offered her the position of Public Enterprise Minister.
JOHANNESBURG - There are fresh calls for the Gupta family to be summoned to Parliament, following claims they tried to offer a former African National Congress (ANC) Member of Parliament (MP) the position of public enterprise minister.
The claim was made on Facebook by politician Vytjie Mentor, who posted a message on a publically accessible timeline.
In the message, she alleges that she was offered the ministry in exchange for taking certain action relating to a South African airways flight.
Eyewitness News has sent an enquiry to the Gupta family, but it's yet to respond to the latest claims.
The presidency is also yet to comment.
The Democratic Alliance, however, says it's time for the family to answer questions in a public forum.
The party's Luvuyo Ndlangisa says, "In light of the serious allegations, I urge the chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Public Enterprises, a position previously held by Ms Mentor, to heed my request to summon the Guptas to appear the committee [and] allow them to answer to the mounting questions over the capture of State entities."
Meanwhile, the Gupta family has denied ever meeting former ANC MP Mentor and has dismissed claims she was offered a ministerial post.
