President Buhari sacks 184 top officials
It’s reported he’s redeployed them over their roles in the ‘padding’ of the country’s 2016 national Budget.
JOHANNESBURG - Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari has reportedly removed 184 top officials from the country's budget office.
He's redeployed them over their roles in the "padding" of the country's 2016 national Budget.
According to a Naij report, 22 of the officials from the Budget office will be deployed, while the rest will be moved to other ministries, departments and agencies.
The development follows on from Buhari's promise to deal with all culprits who had a hand in the alterations made to this year's national budget - which the president has described as "embarrassing" and "disappointing".
Last month, the Nigerian government said it was saving around $12 million dollars a month by removing nearly 24,000 workers from its payroll.
The audit, revealing their non-existence, is part of an anti-corruption campaign by President Buhari who came into power last year.
Corruption and mismanagement have long been a challenge to Nigeria's growth and government has promised to cut costs.
