SA to assist Nigeria in fight against Boko Haram

Military strategists insist the SANDF belt-tightening makes this impossible.

PRETORIA - Nigerian media is reporting that President Jacob Zuma has offered South African collaboration with Nigeria in the war on terror, specifically in fighting Boko Haram.

There's no indication of this in the South African leader's speech to a joint session of Parliament in Abuja or his toast at last night's state dinner.

Military strategists say it's complicated.

South Africa's Presidency is putting the best possible spin on President Zuma's two-day State visit to the West African giant.

After a press briefing delivered by Nigerian Defence Minister Dan Ali and his South African counterpart, Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula, local media say South Africa's planning to help Nigeria fight Boko Haram.

Military strategists insist the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) belt-tightening makes this impossible.
