CAPE TOWN - Police have arrested 14 people during a protest over teacher shortages at a school in Port Elizabeth.
The group, mostly parents of children at schools with a shortage of teachers, had marched to the Gelvandale Stadium earlier today to speak to education officials.
When officials did not arrive, they formed a human chain and blocked a road, prompting Public Order Police to launch stun grenades to disperse them.
The police's Sandra Janse van Rensburg said, "We have arrested 14 people in total - 12 women and two men - in terms of the Road Traffic Act for the obstruction of traffic. We have released them on warning to appear in court on Tuesday."
