Stellenbosch Winery staff receive counselling after colleague's death
Thelema Winery says a worker may have been overcome by fumes and fell into the wine tank.
CAPE TOWN - Staff at a Stellenbosch Winery are today receiving trauma counselling after a 23-year-old worker died after falling into a wine tank.
Thelema Winery says the incident happened on Saturday morning.
It says the worker, James Williams, may have been overcome by fumes and fell into the wine tank.
Manager Rudi Schultz says media reports suggesting Williams drowned after falling into the tank cannot be confirmed as they're still awaiting the post-mortem report.
"What we can imagine happened is this person, for whatever reason, tripped or fell into the tank, that wine is fermented and that gas is extremely toxic."
