CAPE TOWN - A City of Cape Town traffic official has died in a collision involving a mini bus taxi on Jakes Gerwel Drive.

The 35-year-old Mogamat Faried Galant was en route to the Hillstar Traffic Department shortly after 7am this morning when a taxi driver lost control of his vehicle and collided with Galant in the opposite lane.

Four other cars were involved in the accident.

The father of three will be buried this afternoon.

The city's JP Smith says staff members are saddened by Galant's death.

"The driver of the minibus taxi ran away and is being sought by the police. The city has offered a R50,000 reward for any information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the driver. In the meantime, we are assisting the officer's family."
