Eyewitnesses have described frightening scenes as they tried in vain to help the two people who died in the crash.

Brian Monetsi says he was driving on the R512 when he saw the incident.

"We saw a small plane that had lost control and it was almost close to landing... it just crashed. We could see that there were two people in there, a male and a female."

Another motorist said, "It was right in front of us so we stopped when we saw that it had crashed but unfortunately we couldn't help anybody."
