CAPE TOWN - The South African National Defence Union said two South African Air Force pilots who were injured in a plane crash near the Langebaan Air Force Base can claim damages, should the cause be maintenance negligence.

The two men were taking part in a training exercise early yesterday morning when their aircraft crashed.

The South African National Defence Force is investigating the incident.

The union's Pikkie Greeff said the pilots will be able to claim for damages.

"If the investigation shows that it's not human error, then in any event the results of the board of inquiry will hopefully show what the cause of the accident was and the defence force will take steps to prevent reoccurrence of such an event."
