UJ probes allegations of application scam
It alleged an ex-SRC member is conning money from applicants who believe their applications will be processed.
JOHANNESBURG - The University of Johannesburg said it's taken seriously, an allegation made in a social media post which claims that a group of potential applicants have been scammed into paying R2,000 to an ex-Student Representative Council member for a place at the institution.
At least 40 people are believed to have fallen victim to the scam.
The institution has launched an internal investigation.
Police say they will consider laying criminal charges against the individual and anyone else involved.
