CAPE TOWN - Mamelodi Sundown's extended their lead at the top of the league to 10 points after their 2-0 win over Supersport United at the Lucas Moripe Stadium on Tuesday.

Play was suspended due to inclement weather for a half an hour but the Brazilians overcame a few nervy moments to secure the victory as well stretch their unbeaten run to 18 matches on the spin.

Asavela Mbekeli opened the scoring for the log leaders at 40 minutes soon after the resumption of play.

It was 1-0 into going into the half time break.

Supersport did have their chances in the match, but failed to take advantage of their opportunities.

Midway through the second half, Sundown's doubled their lead courtesy of Zimbabwean star Khama Billiat.

With this defeat, Stuart Baxter's men drop to 11th on the log, whilst their Tshwane rivals extended their lead over Bidvest Wits who play Polokwane City tomorrow.

In the other fixture on Tuesday evening, Ajax Cape Town were held to a 1-1 draw by Chippa United at the Athlone Stadium.

The Urban Warriors took the lead through the inform Prince Nxumalo just before the half hour mark.

Chippa though hit back after 60 minutes through Rulani Manzini who pounced on an error by the Ajax defence.

The home side had their chances to get all three points, but were left frustrated as they had to settle for a stalemate.

The draw means the home side could not force their way into the top eight, but remain in 10th whilst Chippa remain in sixth spot.
