How to protect yourself against bank fraud

JOHANNESBURG - Sabric CEO Kalyani Pillay says bank customers need to empower themselves with information about internet banking fraud.

Talking to Kieno Kammies on Cape Talk, Pillay said customers need to be aware of how fraudsters operate and always liaison with the banks to mitigate the risks.

Following the FNB phishing scam, customers have been warned to be aware of online advertising that requires them to give their details, especially online shopping or promotions.

Using sophisticated tactics, fraudsters have been using phishing to defraud people millions and have gone undetected for some time.

Disgruntled FNB customers are taking on the bank, saying it must explain how transactions went off without their consent.

Even though the bank denied acting negligently, customers remain upbeat that it has some sort of collusion in the matter.
