Decrease in petrol prices attributed to drop in oil prices
While the price has dropped significantly, it will most likely be the last drop over the next few months.
JOHANNESBURG - A 69 cents decrease in the price of petrol has been attributed to dropping oil prices and a rally by the rand, which saw it regain some ground over the past week.
But the price of diesel has increase by around 15 cents.
This is because the two are calculated differently and less regulation applies to diesel.
Economist Dawie Roodt said while the price drop will provide much needed relief, it will most likely be the last drop for a few months.
"Unfortunately, recently the rand also weakened a little bit and on top of that we're going to see quite substantial increase in the fuel levy. So I'm afraid this is a nice decrease in the petrol price but it's the last we're going to in the next few months."
