JOHANNESBURG - At least four people have been killed after being struck by lightning during a violent storm in KwaZulu-Natal.

The storm ripped through the Durban area last night causing localised flooding in the area.

KZN EMS spokesperson Robert Mckenzie says disaster management teams will be assisting affected families today.

"Thirteen people were treated for injuries when their houses collapsed. Some of the houses completely collapsed and in one incident the roof was blown away. One person was also seriously injured when a tree landed on a car."

At the same time, a man has been killed after he was crushed by a wall that collapsed at his house in Westville, also in KwaZulu-Natal.

His wife was seriously injured in the incident and rushed to hospital for further treatment.

It's understood the 49-year-old man, his wife and children went to inspect the wall after heavy rains and flooding.

ER24's Werner Vermaak said, "Unfortunately, due to the heavy rains the wall collapsed on them, the wife managed to get out from underneath it and noticed her husband was still trapped. She alerted emergency services, they performed CPR on him but sadly they could not revive him."
