CAPE TOWN - The City Of Cape Town is to honour Metro Police and law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty with a memorial wall.

The municipality says 71 officers have been attacked while on duty over the past year.

Metro Police constable Ben Koopman was gunned down last week. He was remembered and honoured by relatives, colleagues and friends at a memorial service in Khayelitsha yesterday.

Mayco Member for Safety and Security JP Smith told mourners that the memorial wall will be unveiled at the Civic Centre later this year.

"We will ask these families to come and help us unveil the memorial, which will allow us annually to convene families and do a memorial service in commemoration of these officers."
