71 law enforcement officials attacked over last 12 months

CAPE TOWN - The City of Cape Town says at least 71 law enforcement officials have come under attack over the last 12 months.
One of them was slain Metro Police constable Ben Koopman, who was remembered by colleagues, friends and relatives at a memorial service today.
The 53-year-old was shot and killed outside his Eerste River home two weeks ago.
The Metro Police's Yolanda Faro says the constant attacks on officers is a concern.
"When we join the service, we know what the ultimate price will be… that we'll put our lives on the line. The only thing we can do is train our officers and we can empower them, but it also sometimes comes as a surprise attack."
