‘SA’s healthcare system in need of a total revamp’
Aaron Motsoaledi says prices in private healthcare & poor efficacy in the public sector must be addressed.
JOHANNESBURG - The Health Department says South Africa's healthcare system, both in the public and private sectors, is in need of a total revamp.
Health Minister Aaron Motsoaledi says hefty prices in private healthcare and poor efficacy in the public sector must be adequately addressed.
He has blamed this for preventing the majority of South Africans from accessing quality healthcare.
Motsoaledi has been sitting in on public hearings held by the Competition Commission, which has asked members of the public to present personal experiences with regards to the unaffordable private health sector.
The minister says he's obliged to ensure members of the public enjoy their right to healthcare.
"As the minister, I am obliged. It's not something that is my choice. I am obliged to make sure that right to have care is accessible to all individuals."
