NWU management dissolves SRC

JOHANNESBURG - In the latest from student protests across the country, North West University (NWU) management has dissolved its SRC.

Earlier this week the Mahikeng campus was shut down due to protests after students demanded that suspended SRC President Benz Mabengwane be reinstated, just as a disciplinary hearing against him was due to start.

The university has accused the SRC of damaging campus property and delaying progress at the institution.

Spokesperson Koos Degenaar says the university will appoint a new SRC in the next few weeks.

"They did also no adhere to the constitution of the SRC, which stipulates that membership with be terminated if they become incapable of performing their duties."
