Cellphone companies warned over fraud syndicate
Scammers are apparently applying for contracts at various stores using fraudulent documentation.
CAPE TOWN - Police have appealed to cellphone companies to be on the lookout for a fraudulent cellphone application syndicate.
Four suspects have been arrested in connection with the scam in George recently.
The suspects apparently applied for contracts at different outlets by providing false information.
Police spokesperson Malcolm Poje says more arrests are imminent.
"It's quite evident from our preliminary investigation that one person applies at different cellular shops with fraudulent documentation and a falsified ID document. They then take out contracts to sell the phone on the same day, at the same place and at another company."
