ANC speakers stopped short of mounting personal defences of Zuma, focusing instead - as his speech had done - on government's efforts to turn around the economy and avert a downgrade by international ratings agencies.
Human Settlements Minister Lindiwe Sisulu told Members of Parliament (MPs) Zuma had presented a solid road map and lashed out at the DA and EFF.
"This camp found nothing, saw nothing, heard nothing, learned nothing from Sona - this was exemplified by honourable Maimane and honourable Malema, who thankfully has left, the air is cleaner without them here."

Opposition parties are expected to dish out more of the same when the debate continues this afternoon.
The president is set to reply tomorrow.
