JOHANNESBURG - Metrorail says cable theft on its railway lines is getting worse and this has led to multiple power outages, affecting its fleet across Gauteng, causing delays of up to three hours.

Metrorail says there was also an attempted arson attack on one of its trains at the Pretoria station last night.

This week, commuters have been stranded at stations in Germiston, Johannesburg, Soweto and Pretoria.

The longest delays have been experienced in Springs at the Nigel Station.

Metrorail spokesman Lillian Mofokeng says, "It's a combination of elements and on top of our list is cable theft."
