3 alleged abalone dealers expected in court
The trio were arrested during a routine police operation on the N2 Highway near Swellendam.
CAPE TOWN - Three Cape Town men are expected to appear in the Riversdale Magistrates Court today for dealing in abalone.
The trio was arrested during the early hours of Friday morning after police found nearly 8,000 units of in their possession.
The suspects were en route to Port Elizabeth from Cape Town when traffic officers pulled over their vehicle following a routine vehicle roadworthy check on the N2 Highway near Swellendam.
The police's Malcolm Pojie says, "They were pulled over and with the search that ensued, police found abalone hidden at the back of their bakkie. They have been charged with dealing in abalone and will be charged with possession of abalone."
