City of CT probes cause of Masiphumelele fire
A shack fire has left 600 people homeless in Masiphumelele.
CAPE TOWN - The City of Cape Town is investigating the cause of the latest fire in Masiphumelele which left at least 600 people homeless.
It's the second fire in the same area in the last three months.
In November, two people were killed and 4000 others left homeless following a blaze which destroyed over 800 structures.
The city's Benedicta van Minnen says this trend of repeated fires is concerning.
"We really do need to get to the bottom of what the causes are. We have indications that the previous fire in November was not accidental, this fire now, we are busy investigating the cause thereof."
