CAPE TOWN - Bonteheuwel police say calm has been restored to the area following reports of shootings near schools.

Residents say police were called to patrol Rosewood and Disa primary schools after gun battles this morning.

Eyewitnesses News went to the area to investigate reports of sporadic gun fire and gang warfare.

Residents and police, however, say it has been quiet in Valhalla Park, Bonteheuwel and Netreg.

The assurance comes as police officers in the area warned EWN not to go into Netreg as the area was unsafe due to gang activity.

No injuries have been reported.
