CAPE TOWN - The Western Cape Motorcyclists' Association has condemned a fatal shooting at a biker rally in Hermanus.

Two people were killed, and three others are in critical conditions in hospital, after a man opened fire during an altercation at a biker rally in Hawston on Saturday.

The incident has prompted an ad-hoc executive meeting at the Motorcyclist Association tonight.

A senior Hermanus police officer is in a critical condition after she was caught in what may have been a brawl between bikers.

Two bikers, who want to remain anonymous, have told Eyewitness News the altercation allegedly related to an illegal abalone deal.

The men say acting station commander Rounita Burgess was struck in the chest and head several times.

Her daughter and a friend were killed, while two others were wounded.

In a statement, Community Safety MEC Dan Plato has spoken out strongly amid speculation the shooting was a reported hit targeting the officer and her family.
