CAPE TOWN - The African National Congress (ANC) in the Western Cape has lashed out at its Provincial Executive Committee (PEC) member Andile Lili who's been arrested for being in contempt of court.

Lili was arrested yesterday after failing to show up for three different cases last week.

The ANC PEC met yesterday to discuss, among other issues, Lili's recent brush with the law.

The party's Jabu Mfusi says the PEC is likely to take action against Lili.

"You will understand that there are three cases that you are supposed to appear on in one day, [if you can't] advise the judiciary court in advance. They then rearrange in terms of diaries as to when that must happen. Now we don't take that as an excuse and the matter is very serious."

Mfusi says the province is growing tired of ill-discipline.

"We don't want to be haste as if we are after comrades. We want to be fair but also protect the image of the ANC because you cannot postpone things that are damaging to the brand."

Authorities had three warrants for his arrest.

He's out on R5,000 bail on charges of incitement to commit violence for calling on his supporters to kill rapists and murderers.
