CAPE TOWN - Hundreds of people have shown up for the funeral of 10-year old Jayden Smith in Parkwood.

Smith was hit by a stray bullet last week during a gang shootout in front of his home.

Two men have been charged with his murder.

The marquee tent pitched in Blackbird avenue is overflowing with hundreds of mourners who have come to pay their final respects to 10-year-old.

Parkwood ward councillor Melanie Arendse says this is one of the saddest days the community's ever experienced.

"I think this is one of the saddest days that Parkwood has had. I think this is one day where say we can join together but it is heartbreaking."

Members of People Against Gangsterism and Drugs are also here.

Meanwhile in Bishop Lavis, it's the funeral of 12-year-old Stacy Ganger, who was also shot down and killed during a gang shootout.

GANSTERISM MUST FALL

Anti-gangsterism demonstrators have handed over a memorandum to the Cape Town mayor's office calling for better policing in the Western Cape.

The Gansterism Must Fall movement, led by various community leaders, took to the streets of Manenberg and Athlone today to voice their grievances.

The group of about 60 marchers keeps up a passionate pace as they walk down Klipfontein road towards Athlone Civic Centre.

When the marchers arrive at the Athlone Civic Centre, a memorandum is handed over to Elgan Fortune from the mayor's office.

Gangsterism Must Fall's organiser Roscoe Jacobs says the memo calls on government to address issues that are perpetuating gang violence in communities.

"We have community halls that are not being utilised so we want the communities to have access to those halls so that we can have the young people busy."

Jacobs says the group wants a response from the mayor within the next week.
