SA chef scoops Michelin star in France

CAPE TOWN - A South African-themed restaurant in France has been awarded a much-coveted Michelin star proving local is indeed 'lekker'.

Restaurant JAN in Nice was given the prestigious accolade on 1 February.

The restaurant was opened by Jan Hendrik van der Westhuizen in 2013 and features good, old-fashioned South African cuisine.

Owner of the South African Chef's Academy, Paul Hartmann, says it's an honour for chefs to receive the award.

"Within the chefs fraternity it is obviously a very prestigious thing to get. From a commercial point of view it obviously will attract a much larger demographic to your restaurant, so it increases your revenue."
