CAPE TOWN - Mamelodi Sundowns convincingly saw off Chippa United 3-0 last night at Lucas Moripe Stadium.

The Brazilians scored all three goals in the first half courtesy of Lucas Castro, Teko Modise and Khama Billiat.

Sundowns took their points tally to 39, tightening their grip on the top spot.

They are now five points clear at the top after high flying Mpumalanga Black Aces could only manage a goalless draw against Jomo Cosmos.

Cosmos remain in 14th spot on the log whilst Black Aces hold onto second for now as a win for Bidvest Wits tonight could see them leapfrog Mushin Ertugral's men into second place.

In Tuesday's third fixture, Kaizer Chiefs beat Golden Arrows 2-0 at Moses Mabhida Stadium.

Chiefs came out firing with Camaldine Abraw's fine header opening the scoring in the first half.

Amakhosi's second goal only came in stoppage time courtesy of a neat finish by substitute William Twala.

The win means Chiefs remain in fourth, trailing Sundowns by 10 points and will help coach Steve Komphela breathe a little easier.

Golden Arrows dropped to eighth on the log on 21 points after three consecutive losses.
