19 illegal grant deductions reported to Sassa
Grant beneficiaries reported unauthorised deductions at a payout point in Mitchells Plain yesterday.
CAPE TOWN - The Western Cape Social Development Department has received at least 19 complaints related to illegal social grant deductions this year.
Grant beneficiaries reported unauthorised deductions and fraudulent activity at a pay-out point in Mitchells Plain yesterday.
The department says it's reported the matter to the South Africa Social Security Agency (Sassa).
Social Development MEC Albert Fritz says his department has requested Sassa urgently investigate yesterday's reports of unauthorised deductions from social grants.
Fritz has once again called on the public to be vigilant and protect account pin numbers and personal details.
He says since 2010, social development officials have assisted with 626 cases of this nature.
