South Africa to get 32 new sheriffs
Deputy Justice Minister John Jeffrey says appointments are made by his office.
CAPE TOWN - The Department of Justice will be making an announcement on the appointment of 32 new sheriffs across the country next week.
Sheriffs are private entities tasked with executing court orders for maintenance defaulters and eviction notices among others.
Deputy Justice Minister John Jeffrey says provincial advisory committees, which are led by chief magistrates, select the candidates.
"They would be responsible for advertising the posts, interviewing the candidates and then making recommendations to the minister for appointment. That appointment power is delegated to me, as deputy, so these appointments that will be announced on Monday have been made by myself."
