Smith's father was also shot while trying to help his son.
Parkwood residents are brandishing placards with Smith's photo on them and chanting "no bail for child killers".
The group says they're not welcome in the community.
Parkwood ward councilor Melanie Arendse claims 21 children died in gang violence between June and august last year.
She adds some were innocent bystanders while others were affiliated to gangs.
Arendse says they plan to approach the court to oppose bail.
