ANC, DA go head-to-head over racism
The ANC accused the DA of harbouring racists during a council sitting yesterday.
The agenda for the year's first council sitting yesterday included the budget, adjustments to the budget, and the city's annual report.
But much of the debate degenerated into mudslinging about race.
The council meeting was dominated by accusations of racism between DA and ANC councillors.
It was the ANC's chief whip Xolani Sotashe who fired the shot, accusing the DA of habouring racists.
"There is a councillor that has called our council with k-words and the decision of the DC was that this certain councillors must be removed. Your MEC Bredell overturned that decision."
Deputy mayor Ian Neilson denied this, saying all DA councillors had signed the party's anti-racism pledge.
"The ANC drives racial division, the DA drives racial reconciliation."
He says the party and the council act against members found guilty of hate speech.
