CAPE TOWN - Police said tip-offs from the community led to the rearrest of two men who escaped from holding cells in Mitchells Plain.

Five awaiting trial suspects initially broke out from the Lentegeur Police Station on Saturday after they reportedly overpowered an officer.

The police's Frederick Van Wyk says, "We can confirm that two of the escapees were rearrested except for the other three. We thank the community for the information which was given to us."

The suspects, aged between 21 and 33, face various charges including drug possession, robbery with a firearm and theft.
