UPDATE: 1 child dead, several others injured in Corlett Drive accident

It’s understood two cars crashed on Louis Botha Avenue and 15 school children were treated for injuries.

JOHANNESBURG - Emergency services have now confirmed one child has been killed in a collision near Corlett Drive.

The child had received advanced life support on the scene.

At least 15 other school children were also injured in the collision.

Netcare 911's Athlenda matte said, "They have been airlifted to various hospitals and Necare airlifted two critically injured children to hospital for further medical care."

Johannesburg Emergency Services say two cars crashed on Louis Botha Avenue.

Emergency services Robert Mulaudzi said, "Two vehicles collided and went on to hit nearby school children."

There are reports of heavy traffic in the area and the road has been closed for emergency workers to treat the injured.

Yesterday, 18 children were injured in a taxi accident in Durban.

It's understood the minibus taxi crashed into a smaller vehicle on the intersection of Booth and Bellair Road.

Rescue Care's Garrith Jamieson said all of the children were transported to various Durban hospitals for further care.
