CAPE TOWN - SANParks says a fire in the Newlands Forest poses no risk to property or lives at the moment.

The fire broke out earlier this morning on the slopes of Table Mountain.

Two helicopters water-bombed the areas that were too high up for fire-fighting crews to reach.

SANParks' Philip Prins says a calm wind has made the firefighters' job easier.

"Luckily, the water source is very close for firefighting crews to fetch water to drop on the fire. At this stage everything is contained; there's no danger of the fire spreading, so at this stage everything is under control."
