CAPE TOWN - Almost 25, 000 people in a Little Karoo Municipality could find themselves in the dark next week due to the non-payment of the electricity account.

The Kannaland Municipality, which runs four towns, owes Eskom R12 million.

The municipality has until next Friday to settle the outstanding amount.

Eskom's Khulu Phasiwe says the municipality has previously been warned to pay up.

"We have sent them a letter, basically saying that they need to settle their bill. Otherwise if they do not, I think that on 29 January we will be interrupting their services; provided they pay up."
