JOHANNESBURG - The Gauteng government has reiterated its plans to prioritise school infrastructure in the province.
Infrastructure development MEC Nandi Mayathula-Khoza has held a briefing at the Delta Park School in Randburg.
The school is one of nearly 200 old institutions which government plans to refurbish this year.
MEC Mayathula-Khoza says her department is responding to the increasing demand for classrooms in Gauteng.
"Gauteng government is prioritising construction of schools infrastructure."
She says she's aware that many schools in the province have old infrastructure and work is already being done to address the problem.
"Those old schools are being refurbished and repaired as we speak, so far we've done about 35-36 [schools]."
Delta Park School, which is being upgraded, caters for children with special needs.
Government says the school is expected to be completed in the next few months.
