Search still on for suspects in 'soccer trafficking scam'
The suspected child trafficking scam was disguised as a ‘soccer recruitment programme’.
CAPE TOWN - The Western Cape Social Development Department is still trying to track down suspects behind a suspected child trafficking scam which was disguised as a soccer recruitment programme.
Four boys and a 19-year-old youth who'd travelled from KwaZulu-Natal were found stranded in Cape Town last week after apparently being duped into paying a fee to take part in trials at Ajax Cape Town's Youth Academy.
Social Development MEC Albert Fritz says the department is working with its counterparts in KwaZulu-Natal.
"At some point, I think it will get to some kind of conclusion. It's ongoing. We just want to sound a very serious warning to all parents to make sure that their children are not getting into the hands of anyone who has devious motives to lure their children into traps that may have horrific ends."
