JOHANNESBURG - The father of an 11-year-old boy who was shot dead in Limpopo allegedly by his 10-year-old friend has called for a thorough police investigation to determine whether it was indeed a 'freak accident'.

The suspect is under the supervision of a probation officer.

Gundo Mamatho died in hospital from a bullet wound to the head after the shooting in the Maniini Village on Friday.

The father, Ntshaveheni Mamatho, is now questioning where the minor obtained the firearm.

"You can't shoot somebody if you don't know how to use the gun. This situation is unacceptable and painful and I don't know what to do."

Mamatho is hoping that a third child, who witnessed the shooting, will be able to assist the police with vital information.

The police believe the two boys were playing when the firearm went off.

The firearm was recovered from inside a pit toilet after the suspect pointed out where he hid it.
