Additional crew deployed as Houwhoek Pass fire rages on
The fire continues to rage over the Overberg, closing roads and diverting traffic.
CAPE TOWN - As a fire continues to rage over the Overberg, closing roads and diverting traffic, additional fire crews have been deployed to assist with firefighting efforts.
Teams have been working through the night to bring an extensive vegetation blaze under control along the Houwhoek Pass.
The N2 Highway has now been reopened at Bot River after a smoke hazard caused concern to motorists.
No injuries or fatalities have been reported.
The municipality's Reinard Geldenhuys says, "We managed to open the N2 during the night and contain some of the lines although we still have lines burning out of control. We're deploying more teams this morning and bringing in aerial support to try and supress the southern lines closer to the highlands forestry area."
