Gordhan calls on govt & business to encourage investment, growth
The minister says this is the time for the development strategies to encourage investment and growth.
JOHANNESBURG - Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan says while the country struggles through a tough global economic climate, now is the time for government and business to develop strategies to encourage investment and growth.
He was speaking after a meeting between the Government and Business Delegation which will attend the World Economic Forum next week.
World leaders and big business will converge on Davos in Switzerland next for the annual meeting.
Gordhan says meetings like the one in Pretoria on Friday tap potential for lasting development in South Africa.
"How do we create a new model of social cohesion in our country so that the huge divides of poverty and inequality are overcome, not just as a government responsibility but as a collective responsibility of all South Africans who have the means to contribute?"
He says the meeting was productive.
"The interaction also gave us a list of solutions and initiative that we could take."
The delegation departs for Davos on Monday.
