GDE: First week of school went well
More than two million children in the province’s public schools started classes on Wednesday.
JOHANNESBURG - The Gauteng Department of Education says it's satisfied with how the first week back at school has progressed.
More than two million children in the province's public schools started classes on Wednesday.
However, close to 20,000 learners are still without a school.
Education MEC Panyaza Lesufi has urged schools to open their doors to those who haven't been placed.
The department's Oupa Bodibe says the process of finding spaces for school-less learners will now begin.
"We believe that the week went well. Two million learners were able to start school on the first day. The continued challenge is to pace the 20,000 young people who do not have space at school."
