CAPE TOWN - The African National Congress (ANC) in the Western Cape has called for the sexual harassment case against Marius Fransman to be reviewed by the party's Integrity Commission.

Fransman's 20-year-old personal assistant claims he sexually assaulted her during a recent trip to Rustenburg for the ANC's 104th birthday celebration.

Fransman was excused from the party's provincial executive committee meeting, which discussed the matter yesterday.

The committee has decided to escalate the matter to the party's Integrity Commission.

The commission does not have powers to suspend officials, but makes recommendations.

Western Cape ANC spokesperson Jabu Mfusi says the committee's decision followed hours of fiery debate in Grabouw without Fransman present.

The committee will brief the media later this morning.
