JOHANNESBURG - The Ekurhuleni Municipality is warning heavy downpours could affect the re-opening of school tomorrow.
The South African Weather Service has issued a warning of flash floods due to the heavy rainfall expected this evening.
The municipality has urged parents of pupils attending school tomorrow to avoid allowing their children to cross rivers and warn them against playing in streams.
Spokesperson William Ntladi said, "We'd like to warn parents to be on high alert and to make sure their children are safe at all times when going to school, especially those who will be crossing flooded areas."
The weather service has issued a warning to Gauteng residents to prepare for possible flooding.
The service says wet weather conditions are expected to last until late this evening with other provinces such as Limpopo, Mpumalanga and the North West also in for heavy thunderstorms.
